Recently, Shishir Deb Nath, a fourth-year student of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET), has been facing a severe family crisis. His mother, Swapna Rani Nath, has been diagnosed with Plasma Cell Leukaemia (Multiple Myeloma Disease) and was admitted to TATA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, Mumbai, India for treatment. They are permanent residents of Sylhet Sadar Upazila in Sylhet Division.
After a prolonged period of treatment in India, the attending doctors have recommended a bone marrow transplant. Although this advanced treatment is available in Bangladesh to a limited extent, it is often successfully performed in India. The cost of this treatment in India can range from 1.6 to 2.2 million BDT (16 to 22 lakh taka), depending on the hospital.
Shishir's father is a simple government employee. Shishir's family has been covering all the expenses for his mother's cancer diagnosis and treatment for a long time. Given this situation, it is impossible for Shishir's family to provide such a large sum of money in a short period to begin the treatment.
Considering this special situation, we urge everyone to come forward with a sense of humanitarian responsibility and provide financial assistance for the treatment of Shishir's mother to the best of their ability.
