কিশোর অহনের পাশে আমরা
“বেটা থ্যালাসেমিয়া মেজর” হচ্ছে সবচাইতে খারাপ রকমের থ্যালাসেমিয়া। যদি বেঁচে থাকতে হয়, চিকিৎসা একটাই- নিয়মিত রক্ত নেয়া। Ahon (https://www.facebook.com/farhankaif.ahon), ১৪ বছরের একটা কিশোর যে কিনা হরমোনের ভারসাম্যহীনতার জন্য ৬-৭ বছরের একটা শিশুর মন নিয়ে বড় হচ্ছে, তার এই রোগটাই হয়েছে।
বেঁচে থাকার জন্য প্রতি মাসে অহনের রক্ত নেয়া, ডাক্তার দেখানো, ওষুধ কেনার জন্য প্রায় ৩২ হাজার টাকা দরকার রক্ত নেয়া, ডাক্তার দেখানো, ওষুধ কেনার জন্য। অহনের ছয়মাসের চিকিৎসা খরচ প্রায় ১ লক্ষ ৯২ হাজার টাকা।
অহনের পরিবারের এই খরচ বহন করার সামর্থ্য নেই। অহনের জন্মের আগে তার বাবার চিংড়ি ঘেরের ব্যবসা ছিলো। অহনের জন্মের পরে আস্তে আস্তে অহনের রোগ জটিলতা বুঝে অল্প অল্প জমি বিক্রি করে উনার সব ব্যবসা এবং জমি শেষ হয়ে যায়। তারপর অহনের বাবা একটি তেলের পাম্পে কাজ করত, কিন্তু সেই কাজ টা চলে যায় ২০১৯ সালে কারন অহনের অসুস্থতার জন্য বার বার ছুটি নেয়া লাগত। এর পর থেকে অহনের বাবা যা কাজ পেত তাই করত দিন মুজুরের মত কিন্তু করোনা শুরুর পর সেই কাজ পেতেও এখন কস্ট হয়। অহনের পরিবার এখন তার খালার বাসায় থাকে।

But, he has been passing his days at home with sad faces. His innocent eyes tell us how much he wants to get rid of this situation and live.
Ahon is diagnosed with blood transfusion dependent B-Thelassemia. He has been suffering from the disease since 2008, when he was only 6 months old. He has been on regular blood transfusion since then. Nowadays, he needs 4-5 times of transfusion every month. These transfusions cause high iron surplus in his body. Ahon needs to take medicine regularly to remove the excess iron from the body and reduce the risk of it causing organ damage.
His health is deteriorating day by day. The amount of required blood transfusion has increased with his age and health condition. Treatments such as bone marrow transplant was feasible for him before when he was younger but is not feasible now due to very high treatment cost. In addition, other complexities have started to occur such as gait, liver damage, migraine. The only suggested feasible treatment is continuing regular blood transfusion and taking medicine.
Unfortunately, his family doesn’t have the ability to continue this treatment. Even though his family manages free blood from different blood donation organizations, the remaining expenses such as blood filtration, hospital charge, medicine are still very prohibitive. Ahon needs about 40 Thousand Taka per month.
