Babu had undergone a critical operation for removing a tumor measuring 7.3 cm x 4.5 cm x 3.2 cm in Nov 2024 which, after biopsy, was found to be cancerous. It was heartbreaking to receive the following message from Babu, “Sorry dosto, the tumor was cancerous. A rare type of cancer named Olifactory Neuroblastoma. Probably, the countdown of my life has started. Pray for me.”

As he was waiting for treatment plans and costs from hospitals in Bangladesh, India and Thailand, his condition deteriorated affecting his vision and the tumor was found to be growing rapidly. His caring physician from BSMMU has provided an immediate treatment plan of 6 chemos followed by radiotherapy to keep it under control. He has started his chemo from the middle of December. This initial treatment plan would cost around 10 lakh followed by additional treatment cost in Thailand (India may not work out based on the current political and visa situation) totalling around 50K USD.

Babu graduated from BUET in Chemical Engineering (Batch-91) and had mostly operated a tutoring center his entire career which got shut down during Covid. This forced him and his family to move to his home village to survive during this difficult time. Since then, he has struggled to recover financially. As a father of a disabled son and a university-going daughter, Babu does not have much financial support from his immediate family and is unable to sustain treatment for long on his own. As a friend, it’s our moral duty to stand by him during this critical time and contribute our best to support him financially.
